Thanks to SMS I have the 5P's ingrained into my lifestyle: Prior Planning Prevents Poor Performance. This concept has helped me plan my day, plan for success and also plan out all my sneaky escape plans.
That being said, when things unfold as planned and we've reached Hunky-dory Town, is that being boring? Are we addicted to the fast-life? Must things always be fast, always working on something new? During a racing season, the goal is always to get faster. The only time we taper is when something big comes along and we're preparing to physically and mentally go over the top, breaking the barrier. And what do we do the next week? Get faster than that.
I love going fast and seeing progress, a visibly positive slope from one point to another. But continuous growth, onward and upward for life? There are always things to be working on and things that occupy our time. When we finally do relax, is that taking a rest or getting comfortable? What do coxswains when they hit the proverbial wall?
I haven't coxed in almost a year, taking that time to make huge changes. Now when life starts losing speed, do we add fuel to the fire or make a new one? I'm a huge fan of naps, but I don't want to sleep my life away. When I'm doing nothing, I feel like nothing. Without a break, I can't focus. And when I am focused, I don't want to break for fear of losing a good thing. There has to be something more than working towards a goal.
A plateau is good because you can see how far you've come, but there is always something bigger in the distance. And once you get to the top, you're just a bum with a nice view.
