A Big Project

One thing that I am trying to get off the ground is establishing an Alumni Association for the University of Florida Crew team.

The team has never had a solid foundation of alums, but as the team has grown and become more successful in the last few seasons, there is a greater need for support.

Most of the effort has been from the team alumni chair, or as a joint effort with team parents. This formal Alumni Association is a big step in long-term support and fundraising. It would be a first as far as UF club sports go, but then again, rowing teams have a very large budget comparatively.

I have a handful of interested alums working with me on this project, but I'm asking for some input.

Do you have any experience working with crew alumni associations/booster clubs?
What type of structure does your organization have?
What is the hardest factor/element in developing an alumni association?
What resources are available for establishing effective and legal fundraising?

My collegiate rowing days were one of the biggest things that shaped my adult life. From one dedicated party to another, this project is a long time coming and I know it will take a considerable amount of effort. Rowing is nothing if not a team sport, a network of dedicated bodies working together and finishing strong. Appropriate Metaphor?

Any help is greatly appreciated! xoxo, Coxswain Patti
