Friday Favorites/Confessional

It's Friday the 10th, and Tough Mudder Georgia is TOMORROW!!!
Yes, it's one of my biggest goals for this year and yes, it deserves three exclamation points.

So let's get down and dirty for this week's Friday Favorites/Confessional.

1) Tough Mudder
I agreed to do this because I was guaranteed and amazing Veteran partner. Veteran in that this is his third Tough Mudder race, and he is part of our military. Chris sat next to me in 6th grade math class, so I know he's got my back.

CONFESSIONAL: I'm a little scared. I've looked over the course obstacles many times, and have decided that it may be very difficult for a 5'0 coxswain to jump up a 12' wall. Not Impossible, just daunting. But isn't that the point, after all?

2) Valentine's Day
CONFESSIONAL: I like Valentine's Day. As much as people want to bah-humbug about the commercialism and forced affection, why does it matter? Jump at the chance to express your feelings for someone. It's one day to be out of the ordinary, and let your relationships take priority over work, stress, self. If you're single, you still have friends and family that you love. It doesn't stop with significant others.
Greg Stones "I Love You"

Don't be a dick who doesn't do anything on Valentine's Day just to make a point, especially if you have a significant other. It's not about the day, it's about caring for someone other than yourself, and having the backbone to declare it.

3) Making Ideas Happen
Lately, I've been focused on making the most of time; not only to have ideas, but to set them in motion. Some things have been a long time coming, others are random strokes of genius while working out. Give back. Reach others. Make the first move. All of these are things I want to actively do in one way or another, on a larger scale.

4) New Kittens!
My friend Hannah works/volunteers for at Cat rescue in North Carolina, Big Cats (panthers) and Little Cats. Two days ago, an older kitten was rescued from a kill shelter, only to go into labor upon arrival. Five kittens were safely delivered, and five hours later, a sixth. The mother is very dehydrated and malnourished, while the kittens must be bottle fed every 1-2 hours.

Hannah has started this blog, chronicling these kittens' adventure,
and is taking donations for their care.

Give today!

5) Brunch
I've never had a craving for Brunch so all-consuming as the one I have now. What I am most looking forward to, besides the finish line at Tough Mudder, besides the post-race party, besides the amazing hot shower I will get after the party, is the celebratory Brunch that I want so badly the Sunday morning after.

CONFESSIONAL: I hate that you can only have brunch on weekends. I hate that it's the only time you can order a greyhound and not have it be disgusting. I hate buffets, but they can be the best brunches, if everything is cooked right and not reheated. I hate that I sometimes have to choose between Eggs Benedict and French Toast. How torturous is that? I hate the post-brunch coma that always comes, whether you're tired or not. Such a love-hate relationship…

I hope your weekend is full of mud and carbo-loading, or at least the equivalent.
