One of my favorite scenes in Clueless is when Cher first realizes that she is "butt-crazy in love with Josh." Cue the water fountain and colored lights and trumpets. As much as I love the cult-classic, victorian novel adaptation, this never happens.
Does anyone suddenly realize that they love someone, like it's a giant revelation...unfathomable? Strangely, the opposite has happened with me on all accounts. In almost every relationship I've had, I had completely blurted out the "I love you" in the weirdest places: right before falling asleep, on the phone, in the car at a stoplight* (fate?)...unplanned, out of the blue, pretty much regretting it immediately after.
In a relationship, what are we doing if we wait for it to suddenly feel right? Is that a good reason to stay in a failing relationship, holding out until you get emotionally committed and convinced it's love? That being said, you can't make love happen. Well...at least mutual love...have you seen He loves me, He loves me not?
We know that love doesn't cure all. Love is blind, even in the worst situations, and people do the craziest sh*t in the name of love. If you're in it and it's returned, then lucky you. If you're not, then...you know...
