Sunday Sayings

Bailey and I went to high school together, an all-girls high school, and even better, an all-girls private boarding school together. Matter of fact, she is my Grand Little Lantern.

When she started up her blog, Lost and Found, I loved it because it was exactly her personality: bubbly, funny and full of hope. My blog isn't quite that, but she was a bit of a stimulus for me to get back to my own blog.

Lost and Found has a weekly blog link-up called Sunday Sayings, where other bloggers can post what is inspirational to them.

I've been getting a lot of repins for this button on Pinterest this week. I especially love it because Diane von Furstenberg bodily establishes the type of person she is, not through words but through the action in her life.

From her biography blurb:
"Now, at fifty, Diane works to make sense of the contradictions in her life: glamour vs. hard work, European vs. American, daughter of a Holocaust survivor vs. wife of an Austro-Italian prince, mother vs. entrepreneur, lover vs. tycoon. She emerges wiser, stronger, and ever more determined never to sacrifice her passion for life."

On that same note, I also chose this one. One of my Resolutions for this year was to work hard and efficiently in all the areas of my life: work, home, the gym, and at SMS. Last summer, I was voted in as President-Elect of the Alumnae Council, despite being what would be the youngest person ever at that post. It's a six-year term, two years as Elect, two as President, and two as Past-President.

As awesome as it is, I find that unless you have a plan and clear goals for your term, then you're not really doing anything, and that goes for all posts.

So this month, me and the Director of Alumnae Relations put into action an idea that I've been brewing up for awhile, a Young Alumnae Challenge. It's a call for all young alums graduating in the class years 2000-2011 to show their pride by giving to the school's Annual Fund. It's a 12-week challenge, and already we're seeing gifts and participation from all classes.

I try to use this Saying everyday, especially in the areas of volunteering and charity. It is very much creating something from nothing, and that is the most rewarding of all.
The Challenge is only one week in and already we're seeing our work paying off. This will be the first big fundraising event I've helped develop and put together from start to finish.  The video is posted below if you want to check it out.

Give to the SMS Annual Fund today!

Very often, I think about how I'm perceived. Am I really doing things to my full potential? Does anyone else care about what I care about? Is what I'm doing really making a difference, or am I just being annoying? At least I know, in this area of my life, that I am stepping up and raising the bar, not for myself, but for a cause.

  2. Miss you too, sweetie! The easiest thing to do is to give online. I've done it plenty of times and it's completely safe. Keep writing and I'll keep reading!
